Armour Protection

What happens when your models armour is hit? Well, that depends on how effective the armour is against the particular weapon that's hitting it. Here we classify the various types. Once again human normals are assumed. Magically enhanced armour will be covered in the magic section when it gets written. Likewise technologically enhanced items in the high-tech section. Cross-reference the weapon, with the Armour Classification (AC) in the combat tables in the combat section to find out what happens.
Armour Type Classification Description
Plate, Articulated
PA
This is what most people picture knights to be wearing. It requires the most amount of maintenance and the highest smithy skills to produce. Suits must be custom made for each person. This is sheet metal shaped to fit each limb, with the joints being covered as well. There are various thicknesses and types of shaping, but it would be needlesslly complicated if I went into them.
Plate, Segmented
PS
Most movies featuring Roman Legionares wear this type of armour. Metal ribs articulated with leather straps. I'm also going to lump the various scale armours in this classification, and coat of plates (like the Roman Legionare's Lorica Segmentata, but the leather is on the outside.
Plate, Floating
PF
Transitional armour. Bits of shaped metal on top of mail. Also includes brigantine armour (jack of plates) which is small pieced of identically shaped metal rivetted to leather. This classification can in general be used for Samurai armour (except the less well known early types which were based on Roman armour and would be PS)
Mail, Reinforced
MR
'Chain' mail reinforced with metal wires. This classification also includes small metal plates held together with mail.
Mail
M
'Chain' mail. Easy to produce en-mass (though VERY boring), easy to maintain.
Hardened Leather
HL
Heat-hardened, wax hardened leather plates. Includes large plates straped to the body, and leather scales attached to a backing (Lamellar).
Padding
P
Heavy clothing, padded gambesons, etc..
None
N
Regular clothing, no clothing, 'chain' mail bikini's etc..
Post Industrial Armours
Flak Armour
FA
This covers the various balistic cloths (kevlar etc..) with and without plastic/metal inserts. In general this type of armour is only good against high kinetic, but low mass penetrations (i.e. bullets but not arrows/knives/swords)
Heavy Flak Armour
HVA
Very much like a plate breastplate, but made of superior metals and paddings, good for stopping damage from all small calibre weapons and melee weapons.
Science Fiction Armours
Light Plastic
LP
Various ceramic and plastic composits, lighter than HVA and able to stop most rifle rounds.
Heavy Plastic
HP
Most powered armours are made of this type. Contains woven carbon and metallic filaments
Forcefield (Kinetic)
FFK
Impenetrable by non-energy weapons
Forcefield (Energy)
FFE
Impenetrable by non-kinetic weapons
